What’s better than a New Year’s resolution? A “SMART” goal!
It’s that time of year again. Everyone is fresh out of the holidays and wanting to make changes in the coming year. New year’s resolutions are common, but they aren’t ideal. Resolutions aren’t usually specific enough. They typically don’t have an end date, are hard to measure and only sometimes achievable or relevant to your overall goals.
In short, resolutions are too vague. They indicate desire and motivation—which are great! But clearer statements will help you get real results faster.
Let’s start 2022 differently. This year, let’s focus on SMART goals. A SMART goal is:
- Relevant and
How does a SMART goal compare to a resolution?
- Resolution example: “I vow to get fitter in 2022!”
- SMART example: “I’m setting a goal of working out three times every week from now until July 1 so I can lose 10 pounds and fit into my swimsuit.”
Not sure if your goal is a resolution or a SMART goal?
If writing out your goal brings to mind a calendar and concrete steps, then it is closer to a SMART goal. If it brings to mind clenched fists and rebel yells, it’s probably a resolution.
Resolutions often don’t point to specific actions, and they don’t provide deadlines or accountability. SMART goals highlight clear steps that must be taken on a timeline.
At Eximo we are all about taking action and helping you accomplish your goals. Consider this your personal invitation to turn your resolutions into SMART goals in 2022.
And we’re going to kick things off with a fun challenge!
In this challenge you will have tasks to complete to earn points. The person with the most points at the end of 30 days wins!
Before you start your 30 days you’ll meet with me to go over the progress you made in 2021. Then we’ll figure out where you want to go this year and develop a plan to get you there!
If you’ve been feeling blah for a while, a new goal will fire you up again. And if you’ve been crushing it lately, we’ll make sure you have fresh, appropriate targets you can shoot for.
Need some guidance? Here’s something you can do right now:
Imagine it’s April 1, and you’re completely thrilled with your progress in the gym over the past 90 days. You’re smiling with satisfaction. What would have caused that feeling?
Don’t let this insight slip away.
Write down what made you smile—or, better yet, send them to me right now ([email protected]). I’d love to know what you come up with! Writing this down and communicating it will help you narrow down your goals and will help me make a plan for the first quarter of the year.
The 2022 Kick Start Challenge includes:
- 1:1 session to discuss and come up with a plan for your fitness and nutrition goals
- Before and after scans
- Tracking sheets
- Private Facebook group where we can share recipes, ideas and support each other
The challenge is $20 to participate and starts once you have you and I have our sit-down. Sign up the next time you are in the gym! One on one meetings with me will need to be completed by January 31, 2022. The sign-up sheet is located on the board by the boxes.
I can’t wait to chat with you about your goals for 2022!
