CrossFit is designed to help you develop multiple skills and strengths at varying levels of intensity and time. It can help you become stronger and faster. But when you’re looking from the outside in, CrossFit can look intimidating. All the fit people doing what looks like chaos to the untrained eye might spook you because you think you’re not as fit as they are.
Which begs the question: Can you start CrossFit if you’re out of shape?
The answer: Yes. 1,000% yes.
CrossFit is designed to be tailored to everyone’s abilities and goals. You do not have to be in shape to start CrossFit. CrossFit will help you get in shape.
CrossFit helps you get fitter, stronger, more athletic, and more mobile. It is infinitely scalable. What I mean by scalable: If you can’t do some of the exercises, you substitute them with something you can do.
Will it be hard in the beginning? Quite likely. But here’s a secret: It’s hard for everyone in the beginning.
I’ve seen twenty something Power Lifters and body builders struggle to keep up. Those guys don’t have as much of an advantage as you’d think.
The moral of the story is this: Everyone struggles in the beginning. Being out of shape is hard. Working out is hard. Choose your hard.
CrossFit will challenge you, but all the exercises can be modified and you will quickly get into better shape. You might even surprise yourself! You will probably discover that you’re stronger than you think you are. You’ll have skills you’ll need to develop, but we all do.
