Preparing for the 2023 CrossFit Open: 3 Months Out

This week while you’re eating your turkey, and planning your holiday gift giving, remember that there’s another event on the horizon:

That’s right… We are 87 days out from the CrossFit Open!

The CrossFit Open is February 16 – March 6, and now is a good time to start thinking about a few things that will help you in 2023.

Create good habits

How are your healthy habits these days? I know it’s hard to judge since it’s the holidays and everything gets crazy this time of year, but maintaining our healthy habits is useful for automating positive behaviors. Habits can take some time to get right. Try reserving a part of your daily or weekly routine for taking small, conscious actions that contribute to long term improvements in your training. Things like improving your shoulder mobility, working on your double-under timing, or building in active recovery days are a few examples. Staying consistent with these habits will help when the Open rolls around.

Work on your weaknesses

We all have weaknesses we can get better at. Now’s the time to get serious about those. Look up tutorials and progressions to get from where you are to where you want to be. Don’t expect to magically get muscle ups, handstand push-ups, and double-unders if you try enough times. Practice is necessary to get closer to mastering these movements. Maybe you still won’t have them at the Open, but you’ll be a better athlete for trying.

Get some help

Not sure where to start? We can help with that! Sometime between taking your Thanksgiving turkey out of the oven and cutting into the pumpkin pie, reach out to schedule a goal review session to talk to a coach. We can set up private skills session and put you on the right track for February. I’m just an email away: [email protected].

Happy sweating,

Erica
