FEBRUARY 2021
ATHLETE OF THE MONTH
A true man of mystery, our February Athlete of the Month deserves all the praise! He has an honorable career serving his country, is a devoted husband, an enthusiastic father of two, and still makes the time to prioritize his health. Congratulations to Ramon H.! This acknowledgment is very much deserved!
Please read below to learn more about Ramon.
What is your occupation?
I’m currently a member of the United States Air Force stationed with the 147th Attack Wing at Ellington Field Joint Reserve Base. I get to fly an undisclosed airplane over an undisclosed location. The rest is classified.
When did you join Eximo?
October 2018
Why did you join Eximo?
I’ve always been an individual that looks forward to constantly pushing my physical abilities. The gym routine was boring. Hitting the “standard” gym was not pushing me physically and mentally like Eximo does.
What changes have you seen since joining Eximo?
Not only have both my mobility and strength increased but my energy level has also increased. In addition to the Air Force, I have two kids that require an insane amount of time and energy, so Eximo has helped with that.
What other types of sports or activities do you like to do outside the gym? Past and/or present?
Lately I’ve been running with my daughter. She’s on the Friendswood JHS cross-country team, so running every day. It’s great seeing her improve on her running and beat dad! I enjoy running, one of the nice things about my job is that I get to run in different environments. Just this week, I ran around Central Park, NYC. Little different with the COVID, the city was shut down, so everyone was outdoors running/walking at Central Park. I enjoy Krav Maga, Thai Boxing, and my kids keep me on the ground with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
What is your favorite movement?
Push Press
What is your least favorite movement?
Overhead Squat
What has been your most memorable experience at Eximo?
2020 was a tough year for all of us. My most memorable experience at Eximo was over Spring/Summer 2020 when the “box” shutdown due to COVID19. I saw everyone come together and continue to “GET SOME” through virtual workouts. Eximo even let us checkout equipment. We saw an obstacle and overcame!
What is your favorite cheat meal?
My wife doesn’t consider this a meal but it sustained me in college….chips and salsa! Just can’t resist. This is Texas not California…. you just don’t let chips and salsa run out!
Who or what inspires you?
I don’t want to get deep in philosophy….
Seneca stated, “ Begin at once to live and count each separate day as a separate life. I get up every day with the goal of improving. Just as our sun sets in the West every evening, it rises again in the East in the morning, as do we…rise up every morning to shine like the Sun!
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I’ve traveled to 49 out of the 50 states. Just need to hit up Alaska.
What is one goal you would like to accomplish through Eximo?
Double Unders!
THE EXIMO OPEN
This is what we train for all year long (well, it’s one of the FUN reasons we train). The Open is a world wide event, 3 weeks, one workout per week. It’s more than just a worldwide competition though. It’s an opportunity to see what you can really do. A time to push yourself past your own limits, while in the comfort of a safe place and knowledgeable coaches. You VS You each week as you begin to dig a little deeper and reach beyond your comfort zone. We will all come together as a Fit-Fam community to do the workouts each week, cheering each other on, learning, growing, and enjoying good company. So if you need accountability to help you get into the gym on those upcoming gloomy days, let the Open be your motivation. We would love to have everyone participate, so it’s time to really get busy! If you have questions and want to know more, you can ask any coach for details. We’ll have more coming the closer we get! To read more about the CrossFit Open or to officially sign up, click the link below. You DO NOT have to sign up on the crossfit.com site to participate at Eximo. The official registration is only if you plan to enter your scores every week and see your global standings. SPECIALTY CLASSES
With the CrossFit Open barreling down on us, it is the perfect time to focus on core strength. We’ve already talked about how much we push outside our known limits during these few weeks, and there is no better way to prepare your body than by making your core as strong and solid as possible. It has been proven time and time again that a stable core helps prevent injury. Even if you aren’t planning to participate in the Open this year, it’s still crucial to be proactive and keep yourself from becoming another injury statistic. Take control of your health, help prevent your body from injury, and focus on the most important piece of your foundation: YOUR CORE!

We are finally creating a class for our teens! It’s so important to keep them involved, but it’s equally important to give them their own space. Our teens are still growing, still developing, and still in need of particular instruction. This will allow them to be in a group of their own, to work with their age groups and allow themselves to be at their own level of development. If you are interested, contact Erica for more details.
