NOVEMBER 2020
ATHLETE OF THE M ONTH
Every month we get together to choose one athlete who has truly stood out, showing their grit and determination as they put in hard work despite their current obstacles. This month we are proud to recognize Kathi Phan as our Athlete of the Month! This dedicated mom of four has been hustling, coming in for every workout, despite having to maneuver around in an orthotic boot with a broken bone in her foot. To say we are proud of her is an understatement, and we cannot wait to see what the next year has in store for her! Congratulations, Kathi!
Please read below to learn more about Kathi.
What is your occupation? Stay at home mom
When did you join Eximo? June 2019
Why did you decide to try Eximo? I wanted to lose weight and be healthier, so I asked the fittest person I knew, “The Champ”, where did she workout and the rest is history!!
What changes have you seen since joining Eximo? I have definitely seen physical changes in weight loss and muscle gain but the biggest change was my mental happiness! I definitely found my joy at Eximo!!!
What other types of sports or activities do you like to do outside of the gym? Past and/or present I like to swim, go kayaking at the beach and playing volleyball with my kids.
What is your favorite movement? Power Cleans
What is your least favorite movement? Squat Snatches
What has been your most memorable experience at Eximo? That first workout! I thought, this sucks, it’s hard…sign me up cause I love it!
What is your favorite cheat meal? I’m sorry did you say meal or meals? Lol, I’m not disciplined enough to answer this question.
Who or what inspires you? The dedicated moms and dads at Eximo inspire me to keep showing up, pushing hard and realize that it is ok to put myself first for an hour a day!!
What is one goal you would like to accomplish through Eximo? Compete in a Crossfit competition!
NEW COACHES
We strive to be the best for our Fit Fam, and we expect nothing less from our coaches. Lex, David, and Jenn K. have been working diligently behind the scenes, reviewing proper form and safe alternatives, repeating rep after rep until muscle memory is established, and, most importantly, getting to know all of you and understand each of your unique styles. Be prepared to welcome and celebrate them as you see them leading your classes. They are so excited for this new journey and anxious to work with you! We are extremely proud of their extra hours and hard work, and we know you are all in the best possible hands!
NEW EXIMO SWAG
We’re getting ready for the cooler temps with some new Eximo gear. Of course we’ll still have the usual tanks and tees to choose from, because you know, Texas…but we’re including hoodies in this order too. Follow the link to place your order by Sunday, November 1. It’s a terrible feeling when you see everyone sporting their new swag and you regret not placing an order of your own. Go now before you forget!
HALLOWEEN WOD
It only makes sense to work hard all week if you allow yourself to play harder on the weekends. We can’t let a Saturday Halloween slip by without seeing everyone in their costumes! Please feel free to dress up the family and come in at 10:00 AM for some spooky fun! Don’t forget to bring the kiddos! We can work off some Halloween candy in advance so you can enjoy the evening guilt free.
HALLOWEEN CANDY: THE NITTY GRITTY
We want you to all enjoy this time dressing up, handing out candy, and sneaking a few pieces of your own. However, we also want to help you be mindful of what you’re putting in your body. No shaming here, and we don’t have to talk about it. We’ll just leave this chart right here for your reference. Be smart and don’t undo all of your hard work in one night! Those small candies can be tricky and make you feel like you’re “not eating that much”, which would be true if you stopped at just one. Keep a count so you don’t overdo it and enjoy your weekend!
IMPORTANT SCHEDULE UPDATES
- No yoga on 11/8 or 11/29
This will be a good time to put the stretches you’ve learned to the test. Take the family out to the park and have a yoga session of your own. It doesn’t have to be technical or fancy to be effective.
- Thanksgiving Day – Eximo 5K
Dust off your running / walking shoes and join us for our very first Eximo 5K at the new location. We all know how the rest of your holiday is going to pan out, so let’s burn some cals early in the day. The run starts at 9:00 AM, and all are welcome to join. Don’t let kiddos keep you back either. Grab your strollers and let’s go! If you’d like to participate but are unable to jog, contact Erica to work out an alternative.
- Thanksgiving Week Closure
The gym will be CLOSED on Friday, 11/27. The schedule will resume as usual on Saturday, 11/28.
THANKSGIVING DINNER MADE HEALTHY
Here we are again, right after our Halloween candy indulgence, facing another calorie challenge. Holidays only come around once a year, and we encourage you to embrace the feast with a game plan.
- Get active and set an early calorie deficit so your body is prepped and ready for digestion.
- Eat breakfast so you’re not starving when the feast is ready.
- Experiment with your recipes to find where you can cut unnecessary sugars. The sugars will add up your calorie count quickly, but they’re not all needed.
- Build a smart plate. Don’t get full on regular foods that are on the menu all year long. Portion out your favorite holiday foods and enjoy.
- Most importantly, BE REALISTIC. Keep in mind the holidays are a time for family, friends, and food, therefore your main goal at this time should be weight maintenance rather than loss. Be mindful of what you consume, but don’t allow it to control your fun.
